Imagining New Natures: Collaborations with Ena

The Ena de Silva Foundation is seeking Docents for an archival exhibition to be held between 27 October – 9 November 2023 at Barefoot Gallery, Colombo. The showcase includes a programme of talks and tours aimed at a wide audience. This opportunity will provide valuable firsthand insight into both exhibition development and the rich history of textile art in Sri Lanka. REQUIREMENTS:

  • - Enthusiasm for interacting with a diverse range of people & personalities at all level

  • Strong oral communication skills with the ability to lead and educate tour groups if necessary

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation

  • Punctuality, reliability, and responsiveness

  • Interest in modern and contemporary art, architecture, and design

  • Fluency in English with Sinhala and/or Tamil is a plus

BENEFITS:

  1. A per diem of LKR 1,000 per (4.5 hour) shift

  2. Letter of recommendation on request

COMMITMENT:

  • Commit to working a minimum of 2 shifts through 27 October – 9 November.

  • Available shifts: Monday – Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. / 1:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

  • Special events and evening shifts available on 26, 28 October and 4 November 2023: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

TASKS DURING SHIFTS:

  • Greeting visitors, answering questions, and leading tours upon request

  • Reminding guests that food and drinks are not allowed within the exhibition space

  • Keeping an accurate and updated count of attendees throughout the entirety of each shift

  • Preserving the safety/integrity of the collection through diligent observation and crowd management

  • Ensuring audio-visual equipment, air conditioning, and lighting is switched on during exhibition hours
